Dirty Shoes

I hate going to jobsites.

That’s until I met a guy who always wore dirty shoes.

He was my boss.

Every afternoon he goes to the office with dust and mud sticking on his shoes. And I can always tell he’s been in the jobsite.

So, one afternoon, he casually asked me, “Do you notice anything about my shoes?”

“Sir, just by looking at it, I can tell you were working at the jobsite the whole morning,” I replied.

“That’s right. And do you wanna know the lesson about dirty shoes?”

“What is it?”

“You won’t do great work if you’re too worried getting your shoes dirty.”

And that lesson stuck with me ever since.

Much like in life, dirty shoes are a sign that you’re out there working.

Regardless of the discomforts, necessary sacrifices, and faith-building trials.

Day in and day out, we have the responsibility to show up and do our work well.

We won’t do great work if we're too worried getting our shoes dirty.

And maybe at the end of it all,

when we come face to face with our Creator,

He will see us wearing that same old dirty shoes.

Worn-out from doing all the work that He called us to do.

And just maybe, we might hear Him say,

“Well done, good and faithful servant."
