Our Son Loves Washing Dishes

I remember the first time he tried washing the dishes with us. He would not stop.

In the following days, he would constantly watch over the kitchen sink. If he sees us there, he would push his step ladder towards the sink and would open the faucet and wash whatever he could get his hands on.

It's funny that he sees it not as a chore to dread but rather a fun activity to enjoy. Because for us grown-ups, it's the other way around. There are things that we are passionate about, and dishwashing is not one of them- it's just a chore.

Or maybe chores are just the things that we once loved doing. But because of doing it regularly, we lost the desire for it after some time. We can lose desire for something as mundane as washing dishes. But it could also be as serious as losing someone's desire to spend time with God.

The reality is if we don't keep in mind the reason why we do a certain thing, we will become complacent towards it. Then eventually it becomes just one of those "chores" that needs to get done. But that should not be the case for us Christians.

If you have received the grace that only Christ can give and have surrendered your life to Him, then you know the feeling of being in true fellowship with Him. And the more time you spend time with Christ, the more you strengthen your faith in Him. That is where true joy and contentment is.

So nourish that relationship and keep it healthy. Rekindle your fire for the Lord. Spend time with Him. Be mindful of what you do.

It's more than a chore. It is your First Love.
