Your Ministry Is The Person Right In Front Of You

One summer vacation morning, our son casually said, “Daddy, I’m bored. Give me something to do.”

He wasn’t joking. But the irony was too funny not to ignore.

Because at the corner of our living room is a table filled with unfinished lego sets. On top of the shelves are stacks of books, at least two of them unread. And at the bottom shelves are board games, back in the box after playing with it only a couple of times.

I told him, you don’t need new stuff to get busy with. Just look around at what you have and you’ll find something fun to do.

As a Christian, I was also like that kid when it came to ministry. Eager and zealous. Always looking for the big and exciting things to do for the Lord.

But as I grew up, I realized that sometimes we’re too busy looking for that huge God-sized ministry that we miss what He has already placed right in front of us.

And sometimes your ministry could simply be the person right in front of you.

A seatmate from work.

The next door neighbor.

Maybe a friend from the groupchat.

So next time you find yourself asking, “God, give me something to do,” take some time to reflect and ask God where to look at.

Your ministry could simply be the person right in front of you.
