Evil Does Exist

“Lord, iligtas niyo po kami sa bagyo na kagagawan mo.”
This was a facebook post a few months ago while our city was battling what could be the worst flooding in a habagat season.
Most people laugh at it.
Some comments are more serious. Questioning why we should believe in a God who sends disaster to His people. He is supposed to protect us, right?
And for some whose homes were submerged for days while barely surviving, that quote was definitely more than sarcasm.
It questions the character of a loving God. “Why does God let me suffer?”
A few months later, reports of flood control project anomalies are all over the news. It turns out, those disastrous floods were not natural disasters after all- but a result of moral evil.
And it's absolutely unfair to blame God for atrocities made by sinful men.
From this I learned a valuable lesson: Evil does exist.
And it manifests itself in man’s deceitful ways.
And no technology or scientific breakthrough has eliminated the evil that is in every man’s heart. A sad reality we all have to live with.
At this time, instead of asking, “Why does God let me suffer?” a better question may be, “Why can’t all men just be good?”
Evil does exist.
But so does a God who is above all things.
Who watches over those who do right
and listens to their prayers.
Who turns His face against those who do evil.
And we can find hope that one day eternal justice will be served.
Evil does exist. And so does a God who is above all things.
