A busker was playing a very familiar bass line on his guitar looper.

Maybe it’s the crowd, maybe it’s the time of day, or maybe it’s his song choice of Sting from the 80’s, but no people were stopping by to enjoy the nice jazzy guitar solo that I think was perfect for the gloomy afternoon.

He changed songs after a few bars. We left and headed out for dinner.

After a couple of hours, we passed by the guitar guy again.

In front of him was a lovely couple dancing and singing along. On the other side of the walkway, a group of guys was also joining in.

But here’s the interesting part. He was actually playing the same Sting song.

Same song, but this time with the right Tito and Tita crowd. They even cheered after he finished playing.

Everyone hears the sound. But not everyone can recognize the music within it.

Because only those with a special affinity for it can truly appreciate the art and beauty it conveys. A personal connection.

And they wouldn’t mind standing in the middle of the crowd, singing along and saying, “I know this. This is my song!”

So here’s something I learned that evening.

Jesus, like music on a random Sunday afternoon, is all around us. He makes His presence known for all of us: in nature, random events, even through other people.

But only those who have a special affinity with Him can truly appreciate Him in the deepest and most personal way.

There’s a difference between knowing about Jesus and knowing Jesus.

And those who truly know Him are the ones who wouldn’t mind standing in the middle of a crowded and noisy world to proclaim with confidence, “I know Him. He is my Savior!”

If you are hearing Jesus today, maybe it's time to stop and listen for a while.

And maybe it’s time to respond to His invitation to know Him in a deeper and more personal way.

You can start this week.

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of My hand.
