The Watchmaker's Treasure

Kuya B has been repairing our watches for a few years now. And last weekend, I brought him my 20-year-old watch.

Kuya B: "Your watch looks pretty old."

Me: "Yes. I still use it for sentimental reasons."

Then he quietly put down my watch on his desk, opened the drawer, and pulled out something from it.

Kuya B: "I also have an old watch. I've had this for almost 50 years."

It was a beautiful gold watch, clean and polished.

Then he started sharing his watch story.

He bought that watch with his very first paycheck. But he wasn’t happy with his job back then.

It was in an industry where people with integrity never get anywhere. But people who are willing to compromise their principles get rich for sure.

And Kuya B chose to stand by his convictions.

In less than 6 months, he quit his job and started doing watch repairs full-time instead.

And God honored his decision and blessed him in different ways.

He was able to provide for his family just by repairing watches. In fact, 8 of his children finished school and are all doing well. He didn’t know how his family survived after all these years, but he held on to the belief that as long as you choose what is right, God will take care of what you need.

Kuya B’s story reminded me that one of the hardest decisions in life is choosing between what is easy and what is right.

Maybe you are in the same dilemma today, and you’re at a critical juncture of a difficult decision, or maybe you’re scared to let go of old habits and start fresh.

Whatever your circumstances may be, I only have one prayer for you-
